While we are still here in the Dominican Republic, we continue to build meaningful connections through music, education, and cultural exchange.

Our second stop was Escuela Bellas Artes San Cristóbal, where we were warmly welcomed by Director Natalis Bautista. During our visit, we brought Spanish-language children’s books, marking the beginning of an ongoing effort to establish a library for underprivileged children — the first library within a Bellas Artes institution.

This initiative reflects our shared belief that access to books and the arts can open doors, inspire creativity, and create lasting educational opportunities for young people in the community. By placing books directly into the hands of students and educators, we hope to help build a resource that will continue to grow for generations of young artists and learners in San Cristóbal.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the friends of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, Hotel de la Monnaie, and Dominican NOLA Fest for generously providing the Spanish-language children’s books that made this important first step possible. Their support has helped lay the foundation for what we hope will become a vibrant and lasting library for students and families.

This is only the beginning, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen partnerships and expand access to literature and the arts while we are here and in future exchanges.
