Cancer. It’s news no family wants to receive. When 13-year-old Landon and his family received his Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis in May of 2022, their world soon became a blur of appointments, treatments and hospitalizations at Children’s. Despite the circumstances, Landon remained positive, determined and courageous. As he fought, he quickly became a strong advocate for himself. He says the trust he had in Children’s oncology team empowered him to ask questions and communicate transparently with his nurses and doctors.

Landon finished his final chemo treatment in October of 2022, where he was officially declared cancer free. In an emotional end to his treatment journey, Landon was clapped out of Children’s infusion center one final time by his family and dedicated care team. As he reflects on that day, he says, “It felt like I had finished a marathon.” To celebrate, Landon’s family surprised him with a golden retriever puppy named Luna—one to remind him of Children’s therapy dog, Frito, who made his inpatient hospital stays special. 

“Life is different, but it’s better,” Landon’s mom, Courtne, says. “We have a new perspective and renewed appreciation for what we do have and what we can do. If there’s anything we could share with someone reading this, it’s that you’re not alone and you will get through it.” 💜

Landon is walking away from the experience with new career aspirations. Amidst all the scans and appointments, he took a keen interest in the heart. Landon’s new dream is to be a heart surgeon, where he can use his personal journey and unique perspective to make an impact. But for now, this fun-loving practical jokester is finishing his 7th grade year and gearing up for a fun summer with his friends.
