Ylber Bajraktari explains how decisive action in the Middle East gives the U.S. major leverage over Beijing. By demonstrating the political will to use military force, and proving U.S. dominance near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for China's energy supply, the U.S. gains a massive strategic advantage.

Drawing a parallel to the 2017 summit in Florida, where President Trump informed Xi Jinping of U.S. strikes in Syria mid-dinner, this moment shows American military decisiveness. Going into upcoming diplomatic talks, the U.S. holds a very strong hand, and Beijing is taking notice.
