Behind every pool deck, court, and facility at UBC Rec are women who lead, mentor, and build community. As International Women’s Day approaches, we want to celebrate some of the incredible women who help shape our spaces. 

Karina’s impact in aquatics reaches far beyond the pool. After 11 years as a competitive diver, she now gives back as a UBC lifeguard, instructor, and member of the staff engagement committee.

Karina’s diving history puts everything into perspective for her. “When I’m diving, I have to do really scary things. Comparatively, when I have other scary things I need to do, it’s not as bad.”

Thank you, Karina, for creating an empowering environment where young women can enjoy the sport and grow their confidence.
