🌴Wild Ponies & Armadillos in GEORGIA! Oh my!!!

👉🏼 FOLLOW rvahikergirl for more Bucket List Destinations & fun outdoorsy things to do!

📌 Cumberland Island National Seashore
📍Located on a remote island in southern Georgia
🚢 only accessible by a 45 minute ferry ride ($44 round trip for adults) or kayaking in

📏 17.5 miles long & 36,000 acres with 17 miles of undeveloped beaches

📣 Why you may have heard of this place. JFK Jr and Carolyn Bissette got married in the tiny little church on this island

🐴 Wildlife on the island: wild ponies, armadillos, white tailed deer, wild turkeys, wild pigs, raccoons and you can see dolphins from east or west waters

🎒 You can go for the day but I went for a 3 night, 4 day backpacking trip with 2 of my girlfriends.

My CI 4 Day Itinerary:

Day 1:

Ferry Ride to the island.
5.5 mile hike in to the Hickory Hill Campsite to tent camp for the night.

Day 2:

7.8 mile hike to explore Plum Orchard and over to Brickhill Bluff to camp

Day 3:

7.3 mile hike to Stafford Beach campsite and spent some time on the beach

Day 4:

Hiked 6.8 miles to Ranger Station to drop off backpacks and walked down to Dungeness Ruins to explore. Then back to catch the ferry over to the mainland.

💧There is drinking water on the island but no matter where I get it I always filter it for safety.

🚴🏼‍♂️ Bikes are only allowed in certain areas of the island. You can not access all the places I visited with a bike. You must hike in to Hickory Hill, Yankee Paradise, Plum Orchard, and Brickhill Bluff. You can bike to Sea Camp, Dungeness Ruins, & Stafford Beach.

❓ Got questions about this remote island? Just ask, I’m happy to help.

❓❓ Have you ever been to Cumberland Island before? If so, how did you like it?
