Did the bard take creative inspiration to a whole new level? 

Some fascinating research suggests William Shakespeare might have smoked c*nnabis, and it’s got people talking about whether it influenced his writing. Scientists analysing 400-year-old clay pipe fragments found in Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon garden detected traces of c*nnabis in several of them, though crucially, there’s no definitive proof he personally smoked them.⁠

The analysis also picked up traces of other substances like n*cotine and even c*caine on some pipes in the area, but the c*nnabis-linked ones were found right where Shakespeare lived. Some experts point to lines in his Sonnets, like the reference to “invention in a noted weed” as intriguing hints, but interpretations vary widely and many scholars remain sceptical.⁠
