#SaturdayStoryTime - Bayfront Nightmares
In honor of wodapalooza coming up we’ll re-live one of my nightmares on Miami Bayfront.
3 of my most nonfunctional post workout moments have come during evening events at WZA. I’ve sold my souls many times on that floor, and for some reason come back for more every time. Today’s subject is the notorious Echo on Fran from 2022.
This was day one of the competition. Very rude. I won the opening event but this was the kind of workout that just floats like a dark cloud over your head until it’s done. You know how it’s gonna feel, and it’s hard to stop thinking about it. So you just have nightmares and live the trauma over and over until it’s finally done.
I prepped pretty well for it and knew what I had to do. To be honest I executed it pretty perfectly for myself and took a top 5 against some RIGS out there, but this is where it got fun.
I had to send the back half hard to get this done and when I dove for the buzzer my legs just buckled and I put myself under the grandstands. I remember it being peaceful down there and wanting to just stay and squirm where no one could see me, but you have to be brave at the finish line. So I hauled myself out and squirmed in full view until the buzzer.
Leaving the floor I was a puddle of lactic acid. I couldn’t take more than two steps without stopping.
I did my one/two/stop until I got out of the tunnel and sat with my coach right outside the floor. I was so unwell it’s funny to think about. Super dizzy, Medical was floating around, the works. “Try and have some water”… immediate throw up… “maybe try a bite of food?”… ejection. My body was full refusing to operate even basically, plus it was like 9 pm and I was a few blocks from my hotel.
jhopper3 had a laugh walking by after his interview. It was full role reversal from the day’s first event.
After laying in the dirt for a bit with a billion yard stare I got enough life in me to get home and took an hour to eat dinner before going to bed just praying I could sleep it off.
Thankfully I woke up a new man and the rest of the weekend went well. I wish I could tell you I learned a lesson but mostly, I think I just scared my wife a bit.
