Palo Verde senior Dominic Rios is ready for the next chapter. 

The Yellowjackets catcher will continue his baseball career at Arizona Christian University, bringing his leadership and defensive presence behind the plate to the next level.

Although he’s only been playing catcher for three years, Rios has embraced the responsibility that comes with the position.

“Being a catcher is challenging in many ways,” Rios said. “You have to block balls in the dirt, make strong and accurate throws, and help call the game with the pitcher. You’re involved in every pitch and helping the team stay locked in.”

For Rios, the position has always been about leadership.

“One advantage is you get to see the whole field and be a leader out there. I’ve really enjoyed that since I was a kid.”

When it came time to choose a college program, the decision felt right.

“I chose Arizona Christian University because I love the program they provide. The coaches were nothing but helpful and respectful, and they made me feel welcomed and supported.”

Now, the Palo Verde senior looks ahead to finish his high school career while focusing on his development both on and off the field as he prepares to join the Firestorm program. 🔥⚾
