This #MuseumMonday, we’re celebrating the vibrant new murals 'One-third of what feeds us begins in a flower, carried forward by the quiet work of pollinators' created by former Deering Estate Artist‑in‑Residence Andres Cabrera‑Garcia, now part of the lively landscape at Fruit & Spice Park — a creative collaboration between two Miami‑Dade County Heritage Parks.

These murals honor that essential relationship, spotlighting bees as vital stewards of our ecosystems and agriculture. Painted en plein air and inspired directly by the living scenery of Fruit & Spice Park, this large‑scale work captures the colors, textures, and biodiversity that define South Florida’s natural environments.

Showcasing over 500 varieties of exotic fruits, spices, herbs, vegetables, and nuts, Fruit & Spice Park becomes both the subject and the setting — a living garden transformed into an artistic window inviting visitors to notice, learn, and connect with the land.

This project is part of the Deering Estate AT Fruit & Spice Park Program (2025–2026), which extends the work of current and former Artists‑in‑Residence beyond the Estate and into new community spaces. Together, Deering Estate and Fruit & Spice Park highlight what happens when history, culture, and nature meet: art becomes alive, shared, and rooted in place.

The murals' unveiling will take place on Saturday, March 14th, coinciding with the Opening Reception of the 'This Living Landscape' exhibition. Visitors are invited to experience both celebrations and explore how art, ecology, and community come together across our heritage parks.
