Sadly, research conducted in Bimini has shown that the destruction of local mangroves—driven by resort development—has led to a 23% decline in the survival rate of young shark pups. Young sharks, like this adorable lemon pup, depend on mangroves for protection until they can grow big enough to venture into the open ocean. Preserving these mangroves is essential for the survival of sharks.
