❌ MYTH: Women in prison are violent criminals who deserve to be there.

✅ REALITY: The majority of women are incarcerated for non-violent offenses, often driven by:

💸 Poverty 
🆘 Domestic violence survival 
💊 Substance use disorders 
🧠 Mental health crises

Many are survivors of trauma - studies show up to 86% of incarcerated women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.

Our justice system has criminalized women's survival strategies instead of addressing the root causes of their circumstances.

It's time for a gender-responsive approach that recognizes trauma, provides healing, and creates pathways to stability. 🌈
