Did you know? Giraffe tongues are remarkable! They are 18-to-22-inches long, dark-coloured, and prehensile tools used for gripping foliage. Specifically adapted for eating thorny acacia, they feature thick, protective saliva and a bluish-purple, sun-resistant skin. They are extremely strong, dexterous, and can even be used to clean their own ears and noses. 

They are not just precise; giraffe tongues are also incredibly fast - allowing for quick and efficient foraging 🦒

Did you hear? Beginning this Friday, March 13th, Toronto Zoo members and guests can visit the indoor giraffe habitat in the Africa Savanna between 11:00am and 3:00pm. This will be your first opportunity to visit with the 6 foot 4 inch #BabyLongNeck up close 🍼🦒
