Some people: Why not just say “Defend ALL Womanhood?” 

Me: As a Black woman, raised by a Black woman, deriving from Black women - our struggles and livelihood will always be regarded as the highest priority in my life. 

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because the rage within me burns so deeply at the unjust, heinous, and ruthless killings of my sisters. ⠀

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because Black women have historically had the highest maternal mortality rates due to the systemic racism that seeps from within the US healthcare system. ⠀

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because as of last year, nearly 100,000 Black women were reported missing across the U.S. and the media refuses to address it. ⠀

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because the criminalization of Black girls in direct relation to the school to prison pipeline is steadily increasing and negatively impacting our communities. ⠀

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.”⠀

When you hear the words “Defend Black Womanhood” part from my lips, it is because Black Womanhood should be defended by any means necessary - fervently and without fail. ⠀

I don’t promote this statement to invalidate the experiences, struggles, and hardships of any other non-Black woman. I stand by this statement because the statistics are staggering and show that Black women are not catered to and as a Black woman I cannot stand by and watch this system work to destroy us.
