“Defend Black Womanhood”

Well, for one very obvious reason, I am a Black teenager blossoming into Black womanhood. I have witnessed firsthand the beauty of Black womanhood and on the flip side of that, the trials and tribulations that come with being a Black woman.
•
Black women are a force unlike any other I’ve ever witnessed...a presence, there is something truly remarkable about them. 🖤
• This beam of light right here is my sister “ Sierra Leone” 🇸🇱 She is Black Girl Magic and supports Black Girl Magic. She drove all the way from VA, (10 hours), to support my vending efforts at thevillagemarketatl. She has started a love project girlswhocanna. Check her out, show some love, share, tell family and friends about her. Love is an action and kind acts like these are how we as Black women grow, support and lift each other. I’m extremely grateful to have women in my family, starting with my Grandmothers down, that hold me down. I am not me without them. My family holds me ALL THE WAY DOWN, and for this I am grateful. I will continue to cherish and defend Black women. girlswhocanna thank you for showing up for me always, in all ways.

It’s not easy being a Black woman, with the weight of the world on our shoulders. Black women are losing their lives at a staggering rate while giving birth. They then have to raise Black children that are being targeted on a daily. They have to prepare and deliver the “What to do and NOT do if approached or pulled over by 12.” There are people and policies in place that label Black children that then get funneled into the school to prison pipeline. Black women are married to Black men that are also targeted on a daily, pulled over by over zealous, trigger happy police officers that are anxiously awaiting paid time off. 
Black women are overlooked and underpaid in the work force. 
Black women are exposed to chronic stress and SO MUCH MORE,
but somehow the ones that I know seem to pull it off effortlessly, but what is it doing to them inside? 😔

So when I 🗣...
DEFEND BLACK WOMANHOOD,
I 🗣this with every fiber of who I am.
