Now I know how to (sorta) work with DVD… and I hope I never have to touch a DVD-R again. The DVD-RAM disc, which is reusable and allows for rewriting, broke, and this Hitachi DZ-MV730A can only use -R or -RAM mini discs. The only DVD reader in the house was an old Lenovo laptop running Windows 8.1 and had to be plugged in at all times. We also didn’t have any spare mini discs, and I wouldn’t be able to get a new -RAM in time so I ordered a -R disc. 30 mins, 1.4gb, NO REWRITES. Almost couldn’t find the adapter that would allow the camcorder to finalize the disc, which is a required process for -R discs to rip (copy/transfer) the files. Once I did, I finalized the footage, inserted it into the laptop, tried to copy the files, and it failed. The videos were still intact, so I tried to rip them with a free ripping software only for it to give me the same errors. I was so damn close to successfully retrieving the footage but I had to improvise… so I screen recorded it all. I found a version of OBS that could run on Windows 8.1, and that was that.

I love this camcorder, but it’s gonna have to use DVD-RAM from now on. Thankfully in my hunting for the right cords and cables to work this thing, I found another one.
