Kindergarten artists brought a beloved story to life through a directed drawing inspired by author-illustrator Jan Brett’s hedgehog character, Hedgie. After reading the story, students followed step-by-step visual and verbal directions to build their drawings using simple shapes—practicing listening skills, focus, and confidence along the way. They then finished their works with vibrant watercolor washes, learning brush control and painting techniques. “They’re hearing it, seeing it, and doing it all at the same time—that’s how the learning really sticks,” said their teacher, Carol DeZutti, who has taught our young students at SHS for over 40 years. 🦔🎨
