Around 4 a.m., the Michigan Department of Transportation responded to the formation of a sinkhole near West Remus Road and South Sherman Road. According to MDOT, the sinkhole was caused by a failed culvert under the road. ⁠

MDOT said they are still investigating the formation of the sinkhole and ask that residents be aware of detour changes in the area. ⁠

“We're getting those kind of established at the moment, so they are subject to change,” MDOT Communications Representative Caitlyn French said. “Right now, we've got traffic temporarily detoured via County Line Road to Blanchard Road to Coldwater Road. ⁠

“We're working on a separate truck detour, and that should be posted starting tomorrow.”⁠
