Nijel Pack scored 24 points and knocked down five 3-pointers to lead No. 11 seed Oklahoma to an 86–74 victory over No. 14 seed South Carolina in the opening round of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Sooners caught fire late in the first half and carried that momentum into the second to secure the win.

Oklahoma (18–14) shot a scorching 60 percent from the field (30-of-50) as four players scored in double figures. Derrion Reid added 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting, Tae Davis scored 18 while hitting 7-of-10 shots, and Xzayvier Brown contributed 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

South Carolina (13–19) started strong, building a 29–19 lead in the opening 10 minutes and extending the margin to 39–28 after Kobe Knox drilled a 3-pointer with 5:24 left in the first half. But Oklahoma responded with a late surge, outscoring the Gamecocks 14–3 down the stretch to tie the game at 42 heading into halftime.

The Sooners continued their run after the break, opening the second half with a 13–5 stretch to take a 56–47 lead. Meechie Johnson briefly pulled South Carolina within five with a 3-pointer that made it 61–56 with 10:52 remaining, but the Gamecocks would not get any closer. Brown’s 3-pointer with 7:53 left pushed the lead to 70–60, and Oklahoma maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Knox led South Carolina with 20 points, while Mike Sharavjamts added 19 and Johnson finished with 14.

With the win, Oklahoma advances to face No. 6 seed Texas A&M in the second round on Thursday.
