Kevin Overton scored 22 points and caught fire in the second half to lead No. 12 seed Auburn to a 77–61 comeback victory over No. 13 seed Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tigers erased a halftime deficit and pulled away after the break to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Auburn (17–15) trailed 33–30 at halftime before dominating the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 47–28. Overton sparked the turnaround with six 3-pointers and five assists, including 15 points in the final 20 minutes as the Tigers found their rhythm from beyond the arc.

KeShawn Murphy added 15 points and nine rebounds for Auburn, while Keyshawn Hall scored 14 and Tahaad Pettiford chipped in 11. The Tigers gradually seized control midway through the second half when Overton knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to stretch the lead into multiple possessions before Auburn pushed the margin into double digits late.

Mississippi State (13–19) was led by Josh Hubbard’s 22 points on 8-of-25 shooting, while Jayden Epps added 14. The loss ends the Bulldogs’ streak of three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

With the victory, Auburn advances to the second round and will face No. 5 seed Tennessee on Thursday.
