There are so many foods on the market labeled as “healthy,” but many are just marketing masterpieces.

Buzzwords like natural, low-fat, protein-packed, and sugar-free make them sound nutritious, while hidden sugars, excess calories, and ultra-processed ingredients quietly add up.

Once I became a registered dietitian and started reading labels differently, there were a few so-called “health foods” I stopped eating altogether.

Here are three 👇
🥣 Flavored yogurt: Often marketed for protein and probiotics, but many contain 20–25g of added sugar per small container. Low-fat versions are usually worse because sugar is added to replace flavor lost from removing fat. Plain full-fat Greek yogurt is a much better option.

🌾 Granola: It has a strong “health halo,” but most store-bought versions are extremely calorie-dense and heavily sweetened. The label serving is usually ¼ cup, but a typical bowl can easily reach 500–600 calories and 30+ grams of sugar.

🧃 Fruit juice: Juicing removes the fiber and concentrates the sugar. A glass of orange juice has about the same sugar as soda, but without the fiber that slows absorption. Eating whole fruit provides fiber, slower sugar release, and more fullness.

If you want help incorporating more whole foods into your diet, that’s exactly what I teach in my LEAN program. Comment “LEAN” and I’ll send you more details.
