What is in flower at the Arnold Arboretum in the middle of winter? Witch hazel, of course!

The red bloom flowers each winter and even serves as a natural thermometer. When the petals are outstretched and bright red, the temperature is above freezing. The petals curl up on days when the temperature drops to below 32 degrees.
