Hollywood High Roller: Inside Casino’s Nearly $1 Million Wardrobe

When Martin Scorsese’s Casino hit theaters in 1995, audiences were blown away by the story, the performances, and the brutal beauty of Las Vegas in its mob-run era. But behind the scenes, another record was being quietly set — the film’s wardrobe became one of the most expensive and extravagant costume departments in movie history, with a price tag nearing $1 million.

Sharon Stone’s character, Ginger McKenna, alone wore an eye-popping number of outfits, reportedly more than 40 costume changes, each dripping in fur coats, sequins, custom gowns, and diamond-level glamour. Many pieces were sourced from top designers and vintage collections to authentically capture the flashy excess of 1970s Vegas. Robert De Niro’s Ace Rothstein also featured a parade of bold, tailored suits, pastel tones, wide lapels, and silk shirts that helped define the film’s instantly recognizable look.

Costume designer Rita Ryack treated the wardrobe as storytelling. Every outfit reflected power, ego, greed, and status. In Casino, clothes weren’t just fashion — they were character, hierarchy, and attitude stitched into fabric. The result? A visual feast that still influences Vegas style, pop culture, and fashion shoots nearly three decades later.

From floor-length mink coats to custom-made gowns and racks of tailored suits, Casino didn’t just dress its characters — it dressed them to dominate the screen.
