Ramin Bahrani and “Vegas: A Love Story”

Filmmaker Ramin Bahrani has built a career around intimate, human-centered stories that explore life on the margins of modern society. Born in North Carolina to Iranian parents and educated at Columbia University, Bahrani emerged in the mid-2000s as one of American cinema’s most distinctive realist voices, drawing comparisons to Italian neorealism for his use of natural performances and lived-in environments.

Bahrani first gained international attention with Man Push Cart (2005), followed by Chop Shop (2007) and Goodbye Solo (2008), films that premiered at major festivals including Venice, Cannes, and Sundance and earned widespread critical praise. His work often blurs the line between professional and non-professional actors, creating grounded performances that feel deeply authentic. Over time, his storytelling expanded to larger canvases while maintaining its social bite, most notably with 99 Homes (2015), starring Andrew Garfield, Michael Shannon, and Laura Dern, which explored the human cost of the housing crisis.

In 2021, Bahrani reached a new level of global recognition with Netflix’s The White Tiger, which he wrote and directed. The film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and showcased his ability to translate complex international stories for a worldwide audience. Beyond directing, Bahrani has also become a respected producer and mentor, supporting internationally celebrated films such as Joyland and Luzzu, and teaching film directing at Columbia University.

His latest project, Vegas: A Love Story, brings Bahrani’s character-driven approach to Las Vegas. The film is described as an intimate drama centered on a young woman fighting to rebuild her life while navigating a volatile past relationship and a complicated family dynamic. True to Bahrani’s style, the story uses Las Vegas not as spectacle, but as an emotional landscape—one that reflects resilience, survival, and personal reinvention.

Filming to begin this month. No release date is available at this time.
