At an #UNGA event marking #InternationalWomensDay at #UnitedNations Headquarters earlier this week, unwomen Goodwill Ambassador annehathaway reflected on the tension between celebrating progress on women’s and girl’s rights and confronting ongoing inequality.

“It’s hard to bear the knowledge that the distance between the promise of equality and the experience of it is still so far apart for so many,” she said, calling for continued action to end gender-based violence, advance women’s economic empowerment and amplify voices too often unheard.

“Our celebration today affirms our determination to outlast it.”
