You know you’ve invented a genre or that a genre exists by how specifically one can describe the various elements characteristics, rules and facets within it.

I invented #Ghostmetal aka #Ghostrock

Just as one can describe death metal as a genre that is notorious for heavy guitar riffs, low growling vocals and lyrics about gruesome or shocking content… my genre Ghost Metal and Ghost Rock is characterized by

1. Verses that have some kind of repetitive loop of a homemade/studio made sound that is etheric and ghostly. Industrial loops as well. This is why backing tracks are required live as you cannot hire 1000 musicians to play each small part within a heavily orchestrated song
2. 8 and 7 string guitars with lots of riffs using octave chords and power chords or droning
3. 6 or 5 string bass bass lines married to piano tracks doing the same thing as the bass an octave lower
4. Industrial, Ancient Ethnic and New Age music elements
5. Spiritual, empowering, sexual, haunting, paranormal or cinematic lyrical content
6. Musical scales used in Greece, Italy, Egypt, India, Northern Europe, The Balkans and the North African and Middle Eastern region
7. Clean vocals, opera or screaming vocals that are not class chords. The same singing style as Nu-Metal
8. The riffs aren’t for this genre if they don’t give the writer the chills
9. Soundscapes

Parent genres: Nu-Metal, Goth, New Age (Musically and lyrically), Electro, Industrial, Black Metal (lyrically and in chord choices), Rock, Folk and classical music.

Why is it called Ghost Metal or Ghost Rock? Because it gives you the chills and because it’s spiritual and ancient in some regards. It’s also a reference to “The Holy Ghost”.

Wes Cage is the project that birthed this as it is my brain child. Wes Cage will still have elements of this genre and “The Wolf” most definitely does with it’s drum sound, distorted piano intro and spiritual lyrics.

Here are two songs that show this genre and what I described.
