William O'Neal II wasn't supposed to be here.

Years earlier, doctors had put a stopwatch on his life. Cystic fibrosis was supposed to cut his life short. 

Now he's a poet at the Iowa Writers' Workshop and forming a bond with a researcher who helped save his life.
