Recently, I've observed a surge in social media commentary, questioning the intentions and actions of humanitarian organizations. Many criticize them for not picking a side, prompting me to shed light on this matter.

Starting my career at the ICRC, I was deeply ingrained with the core humanitarian principles that are paramount for every healthcare professional and humanitarian:

- Humanity: Our primary mission is to protect and uphold human life and dignity, especially in crises. As healthcare professionals, our commitment is unwavering in alleviating human suffering wherever it may manifest.

- Neutrality: Amidst conflicts and controversies, we abstain from taking sides. This neutrality isn’t about indifference; it's a deliberate decision to prioritize #HumanityFirst. We serve everyone, regardless of race, creed, or affiliation, ensuring aid reaches those in dire need.

- Impartiality: Our assistance is determined solely by need, prioritizing the most urgent cases without discrimination. Personal emotions, political beliefs, or convictions don't sway our actions; our singular focus remains on supporting those in distress.

- Independence: Our actions are autonomous, aligning strictly with our values and principles. We remain undeterred by external influences, be they political or otherwise, upholding our commitment to humanitarian causes.

In this tumultuous global landscape, it's essential to recognize that our steadfast adherence to these principles isn't indicative of passivity or fear. Instead, it stands as a testament to our dedication to being an integral part of the solution. While upholding these principles can be challenging, they form the foundation of authentic humanitarian work.
