When people think about Europe’s startup and brand scene, they say Berlin. London. Amsterdam.

Lisbon never comes up first.

That’s exactly why I’ve been filming it for two years.

In 2012, I started my startup journey with Mubi, one of the earliest curated streaming platforms, before Netflix made that idea mainstream. In 2015, I helped a young founder build what became Les Benjamins, one of the first luxury streetwear brands out of Istanbul.

Nobody believed in it when we first started. Now it’s worth millions and worn around the world.

That’s the paradox of brand building. No one sees it until it’s already happened.

I see Lisbon the same way.

Not the Lisbon of pastel de nata and rooftop bars. The other one. The one where a founder is quietly building something in a co-working space in Caparica that will matter in five years. Where centuries of trade history across Africa, Brazil and Asia left a cultural DNA that makes this city think about the world differently than any other capital in Europe.

Most people visit Lisbon like it’s a souvenir shop. They take the tram, they take the photo, they leave.

This film is different.

Part diary, part brand study, filmed across two years of visits, conversations, and quiet observation.

I turned it into a 30-minute YouTube episode showing why Lisbon is the city nobody saw coming. And it might change how you think about where the next big things are being built.
