The Capitate Apprehension Test Is sometimes called a displacement test and is used to check for capitate instability to perform the test Push the capitate from the Palmer side to the dorsal side using one thumb reinforced with the other thumb and stabilized with the fingers under the hand and the wrist the wrist should be in neutral during this procedure and the thumb should be left free a positive test is indicated by apprehension pain and occasionally a click when you mobilize the capitate from the parliament towards the dorsal surface capitate displacement is often caused by a fall on an outstretched hand and is commonly associated with scapholunate instability when the capital is subluxed it becomes more prominent at the base of the third metacarpal when the wrist is flexed as a result this can also cause pain and limitation with the passive end range wrist extension.
