❤️Thank you Peters Valley School of Craft for hosting one of my favorite artists: Porfirio Gutierrez! 

Peters Valley School of Craft presented Maestro Porfirio Gutierrez’s in-person lecture, trunk show, and workshop called “A Material Exploration: The Cochineal Insect.”

Porfirio Gutierrez is a California based Zapotec textile artist specializing in natural dyeing techniques. He talks about identity and migration.

As a visual artist, meeting Porfirio Gutierrez was life affirming because his creative practice involves family, traditional wisdom, plants as medicine, and determination. 

His art — dynamic weavings both functional and sensory — hold magic in its threads. If magic is simply believing in ourselves over time, even when the journey is long, this art magic is what the world needs now. 

❤️His studio is in Ventura, California open by appointment. Schedule a studio visit with him and follow his work porfirio_gutierrez_studio 

In these photos, Porfirio and I karinapuentearts discuss future exhibitions while each holding our unique art forms in our hands. 

I would love to exhibit my art in the same space as Porfirio one day. These photos will hold the story until it comes true.
