If you like lifting heavy weights, great. They 'work' to make you stronger, grow muscle, and bring the numerous health benefits we discuss in this paper: https://journals.lww.com/acsm-healthfitness/fulltext/2023/11000/the_coming_of_age_of_resistance_exercise_as_a.7.aspx but let's be clear that lighter weights, when lifted with high effort (8-9/10 on an RPE scale) or with 1-3 RIR do the same things. Especially metabolic health! This has been shown countless times in men and women, older and younger PMID: 35015560, 28834797, 25530577, and 37414459 So, if you want or like to lift heavy weights - you feel like a badass doing it - power to you! The 'need' for it - as a number of my previous posts heave - is just not there. Shout out to dr.lauren.shelton for her incredible review of the effects on bone - check out her post! #muscle #bone #health #strengthtraining #resistancetraining #healthyaging #womenshealth #bonehealth #musclegrowth
