🌍 The birth of continents was not random - it was a product of deep geologic processes.

Roughly 2.5 billion years ago, Earth's surface underwent a dramatic transformation.
Before this, our planet was primarily covered in oceans. Then continental masses began to emerge.

But how?

Our expedition to Iceland, a tectonic hotspot, reveals the science.

🔬 Around 4 billion years ago, plate tectonics began shifting the Earth’s rigid lithospheric plates.
☔️ Over time, an estimated 18 quintillion liters of water rained down on Earth for millions of years.
🌍 As the crust cooled, two types of lithosphere formed: oceanic and continental.

🪨 The key difference? Mineral density.
Continental crust, primarily composed of granite, is less dense than oceanic crust (mainly basalt).
Because of this, granite "floated" above denser materials, forming stable landmasses—the continents.

This process reshaped our world—creating habitable land, regulating climate, and forming ecosystems.

🧠 Earth’s evolution is driven by invisible yet powerful forces—tectonic activity, mineral physics, and thermal dynamics.
