windows 10 support is ending on october 14, 2025 — which means your pc will still work, but you won’t receive any more security or feature updates. however, microsoft defender antivirus and microsoft 365 apps will continue to get updates until october 2028.

so what should you do? if your pc is eligible for windows 11, you can upgrade through windows update. windows 11 offers 62% fewer security incidents and 3x fewer firmware attacks. you can easily transfer your files using windows backup.

if you prefer to stay on windows 10, you can enroll in the extended security updates (esu) plan. for personal pcs, there are three enrollment options: windows backup (free), microsoft rewards points (if you have at least 1,000 points), or a $30/year paid plan. esu coverage for personal devices lasts until october 13, 2026. for commercial devices, esu costs $61 per device per year and can be renewed for up to three years.

to stay secure, start preparing your upgrade plan now.
