Warning: Canada’s next move could cost more than just money—it could cost your freedom.

Are we trading our autonomy for a false sense of security? Under Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Liberal government is steering Canada toward deeper government ownership—and unsettling limits on our independence.

In The Hostage Effect, I wrote:

“Captivity has many faces… They don’t need prison walls when they can shape the information we consume, frame the choices we believe we have, and make submission feel like the only path forward. But we are not powerless…”

This is no longer theoretical.

Take the $25 billion prefab housing initiative—not just about building homes, but about consolidating control. The land stays in government hands. “Affordable” turns into rented or highly restricted tenure, not a path to equity or freedom.

Here’s the kicker: Carney only recently left his leadership role at Brookfield Asset Management—a colossal global investment player—and has signed a conflict-of-interest screening agreement tied to that past role . Within two days of the election win, Brookfield-linked oil and gas firms were already lobbying his government to fast-track approvals . Who stands to gain? Certainly not everyday Canadians.

As I warned in the book:

“The systems around us… are designed to maintain control, to keep us compliant, and to make captivity feel normal…”

This managed dependence isn’t just policy—it’s a slippery slope. What about our kids and grandkids? Will they ever own property, or will debt and control rule their lives?

That’s not the future I want. It’s time we wake up before we lose it all.

Awareness and critical questioning are our first line of defense.

Let’s talk about what’s really at stake. And if you want a deeper dive into how systems shape and restrict us—grab a copy of The Hostage Effect.
