👇🏼 Day 7 of our 14-Day New Zealand Road Trip 🇳🇿🏔️🌥️

We’ve seen a lot of beautiful places, but Aoraki Mt Cook leaves us speechless every time.

🚗 First of all, on the drive in, make sure you stop at Tapataia Mahaka Peter’s Lookout – it’s incredible!

Alright, here’s how we recommend spending your day here:

🥾 Morning: Hike one of the iconic trails

This national park has some incredible hiking, and these are some of our favourites:

• Hooker Valley Track: Possibly the most iconic hike in NZ. It’s a 10.9km walk (~2.5-3 hours), but unfortunately, a section of the track is currently closed due to maintenance. You can still hike a large portion of it, and the views are still 100% worth it.

• Sealy Tarns: One of the most breathtaking views with a massive glacier in front of you, as well as a full view of Aoraki Mount Cook. You do have to hike 2,200+ stairs to get there, so you’re working hard for the views! (Takes 3-4 hours to complete)

• Tasman Lake Track: A short walk (3.7km) with beautiful views of the mountains and icebergs floating in a glacier lake! Tasman Glacier is the largest glacier in NZ, so this one is well worth checking out! Allow 1-1.5 hours 🥾

💙 Afternoon: Swim in Lake Pukaki
If you’re brave, hop for a dip in the ice-cold, beautiful Lake Pukaki and enjoy an incredible view of Aoraki from a distance. Glentanner is a good spot to swim.

🌅 Evening: Catch sunset
If you’re lucky with the weather, the sunsets here are absolutely unreal. We caught one from the Hooker Valley Track, but you can also catch a beautiful one at Glentanner or your accommodation.

⚠️ The weather here can be unpredictable, so if you have the flexibility, plan for an extra day just in case! We suggest at least 2 nights.
