🚗 560 Miles Across the West

We landed in Las Vegas from London and hit the road—driving through Nevada’s deserts and California’s mountains, making our way to the Bay Area. 20 hours of travel, split between air and asphalt—and well worth it.

Road-tripping through America really puts its vastness into perspective. The open highways, the endless landscapes, the sheer scale of it all—this is a country built for long drives.

Driving through Nevada felt strangely familiar—long, empty roads, vast khaki deserts, and that dry, endless horizon. If you’ve ever been to Southern Afghanistan, you’d know what I mean. It’s wild how two places, worlds apart, can share the same energy.

This Afghanistan-esque road trip was fueled by nostalgic music, deep dives into history, and my first time driving an American brand—the Dodge Durango, which turned out to be a surprisingly comfortable ride for long distances. (Side note: NPR’s ‘Afghanistan: The Centre of the World’ is worth a listen if you’re ever on a long drive.)

This trip is a chance to slow down, take in the landscapes, and capture the beauty of this part of the world.
