Light Gathering in the Yuàn
光聚院心
An evening where light, food, and memory quietly gathered.

Inside The Light Room, Mason Studio mason_studio shaped the space, VYVYD Lighting vyvydlighting choreographed illumination that shifted with each course, and Chef Eva Chin ridetowander of Yan Dining Room yandiningroom told stories through flavour. Light drifted, memories surfaced, and the Yuàn became what it has always been meant to be—a place of gathering, nourishment, and care.

The night began the way home always does for me—with soup.
A Welcome Broth of Hoi Mei (traditional dried seafood) and winter melon, gentle yet profound. In most Cantonese families, soup is never just a course. It’s love. It’s care. It’s how mothers and grandmothers welcome you home—nourishing first, speaking later. That first sip instantly brought me back to that feeling of being held, protected, and seen.

From there, the courtyard came alive.

A Drunken Shellfish Trio unfolded with layered memory and craft:
• Chaoshan-style drunken oyster shot
• Sichuan green peppercorn pickled mussels
• Ningbo yellow wine marinated scallop

A delicate Farm Egg followed, paired with Nova Scotia green crab and sea urchin, rich yet restrained.

Then a luminous Terrine of seabuckthorn and sidestripe shrimp, bright and precise.

A moment of pause with a Cleansing Broth, before moving into Winter Radish, layered with cured salmon roe and ling cod—quietly comforting.

The evening softened with Red Love Apple, infused with hawthorn and cinnamon, and closed with Roasted Rice Milk, warmed by sweet potato and ginger—a final embrace.

Some nights feed the body.
Some nights feed the soul.
This one felt like home. 🌙✨
