I did it! 😱🎣

My 2nd session at the res and one that was full of anticipation. My first session here was an expected blank, at 200 acres the res is not a place you can rock up for a few nights and expect to catch carp. This time I was going back with a fully prepped swim and a huge storm system bringing big warm winds from the south. I’d been pre baiting for 2 weeks now every 3-4 days making the 3hour round trip to keep the bait going in. The storm was due in on my 2nd night and for mid December temperatures were up in the double figures. I arrived down to the lake about 1pm and managed to get the rods out just as it got dark. The first night went by without event but as the wind started to switch around the next morning I could feel the temperature start to rise rapidly. The daylight hours were quick to disappear and as darkness descended the storm moved in. The wind and rain was brutal and the sound of the trees snapping through the narrow valley was haunting. It was just after 2am when the rod came to life, the rain was sheeting down and as I stood there with a rod in my hand I was certain I had a carp on the end. A slow battle followed and as the pale flash of scales reflected the light from my head torch I thought it looked a good fish!
My target here was to catch a mid 30 common & I knew there were a few in here from looking at the limited catch reports and I was pretty sure I’d done with the first carp! Lifting her up on the scales and she spun the needle to 38lb 🦾😱 an epic catch from a vast expanse of water with an unknown stock. Proof that hard work and determination can catch you carp even in the most challenging of conditions.
The following morning was an absolute nightmare! Doing catch shots at first light with the driving rain, packing up, getting soaked, drowning my microphone, dropping the barrow, navigating the fallen trees and a blocked road home! At times I do question why I punish myself for it all 🤣🤣
The following week was due to be my last session before pulling off here for the winter. Stay tuned for that update 😁🎣
