Recently I’ve been trialing lots of different terminal tackle and putting it through it paces. Switching things up every now and again can give you a new perspective on tactics and especially effectiveness in certain scenarios. What I’ve found was some absolute gems, let’s dive in! 

Big wild lakes anywhere in the world will ask everything from your tackle and setup. Unforgiving underwater topography, giant snags, structures, weeds, muscle beds, FORESTS! These places are not manicured commercial holiday venues they are the true wild and still largely unexplored destinations we all dream of visiting. Choosing tackle that will stand up to the job is not always an easy choice and having faith that WHEN you pull into one of these beautiful wild carp it’s going to stand up to the job is absolutely paramount. Stepping things up is a necessity and on this occasion I was putting to the test the following:

OMC’s Blend hook link in 35lb 
Simple lead clip setup with a 4oz flat pear 
My Mainline on these adventures is always whiplash braid in 45lb with a 60ft length of 60lb mono snag leader.
Range: 400meters out using the boat 
 
My rig tied with a slip D & fished with a large snowman (24bottom, 14mm popup) & wrapped in paste which I love to use for added attraction. Over the week at this mountain lake I’d tried out a few different setups and finally settled on this combo. The hook holds with the lock hooks were incredible and despite the long and intense battles with quite a lot of wild and possibly uncaught carp I never managed to bend, break or damage one which when you get to watch the footage back later will be very surprising! 
The Blend hooklink has got to be one of my favourite bits of terminal tackle for a long long time. What a material this is and I will be using this stuff for all of my future travels, strong, supple, easy to strip and just a fantastic hook link all round!
