Why I turned down offers at big corporations and joined a startup after college 🤝

TLDR:
1. Cultural fit > Brand name (there are many other ways to build your personal brand and competency besides having a sticker on your resume that says “I worked for XYZ”). Besides being able to “do the work”, enjoying the culture and people is a huge part of your energy because you’re spending 1/3 of your day there.
2. Startups are great environments for people who enjoy new things, new tech, solving old problems in new ways. Always changing, always moving.
3. Startups are a fantastic learning experience for those who want to take things from 0 to 1 instead of building on top of something that already has a legacy. You’ll like it if you like experimentation, wearing multiple hats, and getting down and dirty.

Some additional context: I had 3 offers from big corporations and 1 startup at the time of graduation. I’d worked with all of them before, either as an intern or project-based and had return offers from all, which is why I was able to weigh “cultural fit” — this might not be the case if you’re receiving offers from places you have no ties to, but good practice would be reaching out to people who you know work there and hopping on call to ask about it.

A couple more videos in the backlog about how I landed this remote job, personal branding advice for students, early career advice I wish I had, etc.
