New on the journal: Early Victorian architecture.
We spend much of our time working with historic houses in London, and the early Victorian period from the 1830s to the 1850s is one we love - an era when Georgian classical restrained architecture started to give way to the expressiveness of the Victorian era

Image 1: Eton Town house built in the 1840s shows the progression to Italianate style Victorian architecture, the facade is full stucco with decorative mouldings to the tall sash windows

Image 2: Cast iron metal railings became much more decorative in the Victorian era but simple Georgian style ones prevailed for a few years of the early Victorian period

Image 3: Our Sloane Square townhouse built in the 1830s is an excellent example of the restrained early Victorian architecture with yellow stock brickwork at the upper levels with a stucco-rendered base

Image 4: An interior from the early Victorian period in Pugin’s family home The Grange note the vivid colours and highly decorative surfaces

Image 5: A concept design for our Sloane Square 1830s house our design uses more muted colours than Pugin’s flamboyant interior
