Sensitive restoration 

Over the past five years, Nancy has lovingly restored her 220-year-old Georgian Grade II listed home, breathing life back into its tired but grand old bones. Every detail, from the reintroduction of cornicing and decorative timber mouldings to the delicately proportioned sash windows, to the fireplaces  has been thoughtfully chosen to honour the historic nature of the house.

Just out of the shot are the original double doors between the two living rooms which have stood the test of time, in fact they are the only items mentioned on the listing of the property. New items like the other  doorways were restored with the lamb’s tongue reeded profile copied from the original doors. Even the reeded Bloxwich door knobs were carefully selected to stay true to the home’s Georgian history. The cast iron radiators, a traditional take on a  modern touch, although the Georgians would have relied solely on fireplaces to keep warm!

The centrepiece of the room  is the striking oil painting by Eleanor Watson, titled ‘All Night in the Next Room,’ which was chosen before the restoration began. The entire room’s design, from the timber panelling to the cornicing, to the all white paint scheme was tailored to frame this emotionally charged work of art.

Final fun fact: the legendary poet John Keats lived right next door - though, despite our best efforts, no lost manuscripts were uncovered during the restoration! 📝
