## Caption

Our Belsize Park Arch House was a labour of love for both ourselves and our client. Now complete, with our client happily settled and its photoshoot happening next month, we’ve been reflecting on the initial concept.

This was a substantial rebuild of an existing house. Located within a conservation area, the rear façade was completely redesigned and rebuilt, including large extensions to the rear across the basement and ground floor levels. This allowed for the creation of an open-plan space for family life and entertaining, with a kitchen, dining, and living space at ground floor level, and a large living room at basement level. A lightwell terrace ensures the basement feels open and bright, and the carefully designed and landscaped garden was developed in conjunction with the architecture.

The original house had previously been modernised in a way that did not sit comfortably within its historic surroundings. Taking inspiration from the local Italianate Victorian architecture, we introduced a series of arched windows and doors across the rear, and created a white stucco façade, bringing renewed character, elegance, and a strong sense of place to the home.
