BOGGED
When there are only 2 other cars per week according to NP registry book at main gate, you can only rely on yourself. And this was not even the main road, so the other two cars probably did not even take this road.
So if you rent a car with 31” tires and no Maxtrax, don’t even think coming here alone.
Solo driving means being prepared. Enough water and diesel for some extreme soft sand and relying on no one to help or saving you.
That day I burned 90 L (24 gallons) of diesel to do just 280 km (173 miles) of which only 10% were super hard.
The next two petrol stations on my GPS had been closed for years. So there were no petrol station for 660 km (410 miles). It all comes to road conditions and you always need to be prepared for the worse.
I had 28 km (18 miles) of extreme soft sand. Double that, and I would have barely made it to the next petrol station.
Fuel consumption management is not to be taken lightly in very remote areas. I do carry 254 L (67 gallons) of diesel.
How much gas, fuel, diesel? How low have you ever been?
