In this statement, Robert Adams is not talking about the Personal, individual “l” 
True awakening is a dissolving personality completely, and becoming one with the Source.
Robert Adams pointed toward the realization that the personal “I” — the sense of being an individual separate from the whole — is an illusion.

In his teachings, true awakening is not about improving or refining the personality; it’s about seeing through it entirely. When the false sense of individuality dissolves, what remains is pure awareness — the Source, or the silent stillness he often called “Peace Itself.”
In that realization, there’s no one left to awaken — only the Self (with a capital “S”) remains: infinite, changeless, ever-present.
