One step back two steps forward - PhD Life. 

We often hear the famous saying “sometimes I am feeling I am going one step forward and two steps back”. 

But I would argue the opposite is just a great mindset shift to cope with failure, especially in a PhD. 

You might take one step back (a failed experiment, a bad day a tough conversation) but if properly understood it can help propel you forward i.e. two steps forward. 

This is how I often look at setbacks or failures in the macro sense. I took one hit but it helped me to move two steps forward so it’s a positive.
