Suffering is a choice, based on the distinction between physical pain and the emotional response to it. Pain is an inevitable part of life, but how we relate to this pain and how long we dwell in it is our conscious choice. «Pain is inevitable, but suffering is a choice.» We can learn to respond to pain differently so as not to turn it into constant torment. Physical pain, illness, loss, and death are natural and inevitable parts of life. Suffering is an emotional and mental response to pain, and it is this response that we can change. We can choose how to interpret events, allowing ourselves to become bogged down in them or finding a way to move on. Suffering arises from internal conflict, when desires and impulses contradict each other. This internal choice influences how we experience life and can promote growth if we learn to cope with difficulties rather than deny them. 

But! There is such a disorder - Masochism. In psychology, Masochism is the tendency to derive pleasure (or sexual arousal) from physical suffering, humiliation, pain, and violence. Masochism is characterized by an overwhelming desire to be enslaved and completely submissive to a partner. Question: Why does suffering bring pleasure? Suffering and pain distract us from anxiety, help us grow, and demonstrate our strength. Ultimately, not only positive emotions but also unpleasant ones can bring moral satisfaction. So, enjoy, dear friends, let others enjoy it, don’t rush to “rescue” them … ;)
