## Caption

Hematomas (collections of blood) on the back of the hand are more common than you might think, especially if someone is on blood thinners like Coumadin or aspirin.  The back of the hand doesn't have a lot of soft tissue coverage and is commonly hit, so it is prone to developing these hematomas.

😷 When they are acute, interventions such as ice, elevation, and compression are best. After 48 hours, heat is better to help with resorption.
