Today I am T H I R T Y 😱🥳🥳 True story: when #13GoingOn30 came out in 2004, I never imagined that my version of #ThirtyFlirtyAndThriving would involve being suddenly single, jobless, losing my house and moving back in with my parents during a pandemic.  In fact, I imagined #ThirtyFlirtyAndThriving would look a lot more like being married with at least two kids... literally, that's it.  Maybe I would have a job, a hobby, or a career... but what I wanted to actually *do* with my life was rarely the focus of my "where-will-I-be-at-age-30"-fantasies, because of course, those things would be dependent upon who I married and when I had kids.  Funny how society makes you think like that, namely, how easy it is for young girls to envision their own futures first in the context of a hypothetical relationship, and only second with respect to themselves and their own wants, needs and desires.  When I was a girl, if I saw where I am now I would have viewed myself as a failure.  Lots of people reading this today will too.  But despite everything I woke up this morning on my thirtieth birthday with overwhelming feelings of gratitude and optimism for the future.  I know exactly who I am and what I was put on this earth to do — #StayTuned #ThirtyFlirtyAndThriving ❤️

This year for my birthday I am following in the footsteps of a woman I admire deeply: Public Academic, writer, feminist and racial justice activist rachel.cargle , and I'm asking you to donate to her charity thelovelandfoundation to support therapy for Black women and girls.  Because undoing the psychological damage our capitalist patriarchal society inflicts upon women and young girls is difficult enough without the added challenges associated with structural racism and affordability.
