The #1 reason behind this?

(From my experience working with clients and helping them overcome this)

You’re Doing Lower & upper body splits.

Why does this cause so much soreness?

When you do a full lower body workout (that’s either a ton of heavy leg exercises thrown together, OR maybe a body building style workout), you’re going to cause a lot of stress to your muscles.

You might be thinking, “well yeah, that’s what it’s supposed to do, right? If I’m sore, it’s working, and I’m getting stronger!”.

Well, not necessarily.

You might be doing too much volume (ie number of exercises & reps) that you can’t recover properly from. As a result you feel heavy and slow on court.

You might also be too fatigued in the workout itself to get the most out of the exercises, because it’s just too MUCH.

What would I recommend instead?

Full body strength workouts!

Here’s a simple template you can follow:

A1. Lower Body (ie. squat)
A2. Upper Body (ie. TRX row)
A3. Core exercise (ie plank)

B1. Lower body (ie. single leg deadlift)
B2. Upper body (ie overhead DB press)
B3. Core (ie. cable chop)

Complete each circuit ~3x through, for about 8-12 reps , depending on how heavy you want to go.
